Module Schedule
January – May 2008

Please find below the module series schedule planned for January through May 2008.
To determine the modules being offered in each series/time period please refer to Table 1 below. An X in the series column opposite the module indicates that it is being offered in that series. If there is a blank opposite a module in a particular series, the module is not being offered in that series.
A description of each module can be found further down on the screen.
To determine the specific dates the modules will start in each series/time period please refer to Table 2 below.
For example, if you decide you would like to take the “Bible Exploration” module:
From Table 1 you can see (by the X ) that it is being offered in the January and April series.
From Table 2 you can see that if you take it in the January series, it will start on January 14*. If you take it in April, it will start on April 7*
*Note: If this is your first module (i.e. you have not taken one previously), you will need to also take the orientation project, “Mary Had a…” which will start on January 7 or March 31)
NOTE: When you select a module, please select a 1st and 2nd choice. If your first choice of module does not run due to insufficient numbers, you will be given your second choice. If neither run, you will be notified and can select another module or wait for the next series.

Module Descriptions
Note: If this is the first time you are taking a module and you are wondering how much time you will need to spend on each assignment, the recommended time for each one (usually between 30 minutes and 60 minutes, with a few 90 minutes) is indicated in the module. In addition you will require time to read and respond to what at least 3 of the other participants have posted. Therefore, you should allow an additional ½ to 1 hour for this part of the learning exercise. A general guideline is an average of 1 ½ to 2 hours per assignment period for an average of 8 assignments over the course of the module.
Mary Had a … - A light-hearted introduction to a discussion manager -1 hour or less
The learner will be able to log on, use the discussion manager program, retrieve information from a website, read prompts, read and send messages. Note: This is an orientation module for first time participants only and should be taken in conjunction with one of the other modules listed below.
A+ Activities – Doing them well, and for the right reasons – 26 days
The learner will be able to explain how activities fit our philosophy; choose and structure activities accordingly; research sources; learn to prepare thoroughly; write a good lesson plan; carry out that plan and complete paperwork.
The learner will be able to prepare and lead Bible Exploration, adapting to camper needs and provided materials, and rooted in scripture.
Cabin Fun - Being prepared, rain or shine – 21 days
The learner will plan a week’s worth of cabin time, having variety of ideas, allowing for weather changes, and allowing for camper input and decision making.
Campfire Messages – Research, preparation and delivery – 26 days
The learner will be able to choose an appropriate topic and method for a campfire message, know how to research the topic and how to effectively deliver it.
Dining OUT Planning (formerly Dining OUT #1) - How to plan a successful cookout – 22 days
The learner will be able to plan an appropriate menu, fill out a cookout requisition, order the right amount of food and supplies, and divide up the jobs among participants. We will look at menus appropriate for various age groups.
Dining OUT Cooking (formerly Dining OUT #2) –Practice cooking it all now! – 22 days
The learner will become comfortable with a variety of cookout recipes by practicing their use at home to prepare the foods.
Effective Meetings – Making the Most of Meetings – 18 days
The learner will be able to explain the components of an effective meeting, relate them to camp staff meetings, committee and board meetings, and be able to apply it to their own meeting attendance and participation.
Follow Up 12/365 – Planning for year-round camper follow up – 24 days
The learner will be able to discuss the varying needs of campers for spiritual follow up, learn about and evaluate available methods and materials, research what their camp is currently doing, and brainstorm for improvements.
LEGO® Philosophy - An unusual introduction to Cherith philosophy – 22 days
The learner will be able to explain how to develop a philosophy, list the four Cherith goals, and apply these to Cherith programming.
Lemonade Financials – Demystifying financial statements – 27 days
The learner will be able to define the terminology used in camp financial statements, be able to explain the various types of financial statements, be able to answer questions from and interpret data on camp financial statements.
Nature Exploration – Learn by Looking – 25 days
The learner will investigate differences in a small sampling of leaves, birds, insects, reptiles and tracks and scats in order to be able to lead a camper group in enjoying nature. Terminology and names will be included, but are not the goal.
One-Size Doesn’t Fit All – How to plan camp programming that fits the camper – 28 days
The learner will use their newly acquired knowledge about how children and youth develop to make appropriate changes in the camp program to make the camp experience more developmentally appropriate for all campers.
Softly and For Their Good - An approach to discipline – 22 days
The learner will be able to explain the “Softly, and For Their Good” concept of discipline, relate it to the Bible and Cherith philosophy, and be able to apply it to various written scenarios.
Singing, Cherith® Style - Music with a purpose – 22 days
The learner will be able to explain the various uses of music in a Cherith camp, know when to use a songfest, when not to use one, and how to plan one using appropriate songs properly arranged, using a theme and transitional statements.
The Essentials of Salvation - The “bare bones” of salvation – 26 days
The learner will identify the essential elements of salvation, memorize a few key scriptures, and write steps for leading a child to Christ in their own words. This personal list will be put into permanent form for ready use.
